We understand that starting school is a big step for both the children and their parents. Here at Ysgol Dyffryn Trannon we offer a rich and caring environment. We have a flexible approach to each year group, which can change to suit the needs of individual children.
The children quickly become confident and independent individuals who learn through their play based curriculum, which incorporates 7 areas of learning:
- Personal and Social Development, Well-Being and Cultural Diversity
- Language Literacy and Communication Skills
- Mathematical Development
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Welsh Language Development
- Physical Development
- Creative Development
These areas complement each other and all work together to provide a practical relevant curriculum for 3 to 7 year olds. Emphasis is placed on developing children’s skills across all the areas of learning.

Children learn more during the first five years than at any other time in their lives. In the early years we are laying the foundations for all future learning.
In the Nursery and Reception class we aim to give a broad and balanced basis for children’s learning and development. The emphasis will be placed on play and active learning which will have a positive effect on the children.

The seven Areas of Learning are:
